CALZADOS BASOCO: AN INHERITED PRACTICE TURNED INTO JOY

It all started three generations ago, shortly before the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936. At that time, our grandfather Cándido Basoco started in the shoe trade in Arnedo, his city of origin and a town that, as many of you know , bases its economy on the footwear industry.

The origins of Calzados Basoco were basic. With the help of a truck, in the style of current fashion trucks, he dedicated himself to selling shoes at fairs and markets in La Rioja and Navarra. The grandfather made clients, and good ones, which allowed him to acquire a warehouse in Logroño, which he initially used as a warehouse.

The sales line until now was intended for the middle class, but as its recognition grew, the need arose to incorporate higher-class footwear.

With this consolidated operations center and the defined target audience, it decided to open a factory in Arnedo, where it mainly produced sports shoes and sneakers. They were years of great prosperity, but, like life itself, not everything is made up of good moments.

THE CHILDREN TAKE COMMAND AND TAKE CHARGE OF SHOES BASOCO

During a period of expansion, the patriarch passed away, and the eldest son, Luis, had to take over the leadership. He literally had the responsibility of taking care of his mother, his five siblings, and running the business.

The workload became too much, so shortly after this sad event, the second brother, Pedro, joined the team. After some time in the company, he was assigned to oversee the factory with one of his uncles. The hard work and sacrifices made by the family up to that point were rewarded and recognized in the region. To the extent that many of the shoe factories that began to emerge at the time sought out Luis for guidance.

Today, we take pride in witnessing the growth of these companies, which are now leaders in the industry and valuable business partners for us!

THE DIGITALIZATION OF THE COMPANY ARRIVES

The company continued to operate as a family business until the arrival of the third generation, when the siblings decided to divide the family estate to prevent future distribution issues when they are no longer present.

With the division of the estate, some of the stores in Logroño and Vitoria changed direction. Some were sold, and others were closed. The stores in Pamplona continued to thrive and weather the economic crises affecting the country.

Serbulo worked alongside his son Juan Carlos, but his retirement was approaching. Enrique, Serbulo's youngest son, then joined the team and revolutionized the business by embracing digital commerce. He also rebranded Cándido, renaming it BSC.

The success of BSC allowed them to replicate the store model in the last location owned by their uncle Ángel in Vitoria. A few years later, this store became the responsibility of Juan Carlos and Enrique, the only two descendants of the family legacy who continued its tradition, with the assistance of their cousin Leyre at the Vitoria store.

In a few words, this is how we arrive at the latest generation that continues to fight to uphold a family legacy that has become a part of the history of our local commerce, promoting, among other things, the motto "Made in Spain."
